Krishnashtakam is an eight-verse hymn to Krishna attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, opening vasudēva sutaṃ dēvaṃ. Each verse closes kṛṣṇaṃ vandē jagadgurum — "I bow to Krishna, teacher of the universe" — moving from the child who subdued Kamsa and Chanura, through the dark-blue form crowned with a peacock feather and garlanded in wildflowers, to the wielder of conch and discus. Note that a different Krishnashtakam, beginning śrī gōpa gōkula, is the work of Vallabhacharya.
