Mahalakshmi Ashtakam is found in the Padma Purana, where it is spoken by Indra, king of the devas, in praise of Mahalakshmi — the text opens with his words, indra uvācha. Its eight verses address her under eight aspects, from bearer of conch, discus and mace to the seated-on-the-lotus form of the supreme Brahman, each closing mahālakṣmi namō'stu tē, "Mahalakshmi, salutations to you." The phalashruti sets out what recitation once, twice or thrice daily is said to bring.
