विद्या विनय देती है, विनय से योग्यता आती है। योग्यता से धन प्राप्त होता है, धन से धर्म और फिर सुख की प्राप्ति होती है।

आरोप्यते शिला शैले यथा यत्नेन भूयसा । निपात्यते सुखेनाधस्तथात्मा गुणदोषयोः ॥
जैसे बहुत परिश्रम से शिला को पर्वत पर चढ़ाया जाता है, पर वह सहज ही नीचे लुढ़क जाती है — वैसे ही मनुष्य गुणों से ऊपर उठता है, परन्तु एक दोष से तुरन्त गिर जाता है।

दुर्जनेन समं सख्यं वैरञ्चापि न कारयेत् । उष्णो दहति चाङ्गारः शीतः कृष्णायते करम् ॥
दुर्जन के साथ न मित्रता करनी चाहिए, न शत्रुता। जैसे अंगार — गर्म हो तो हाथ जलाता है, और ठंडा हो तो काला कर देता है।
