यथा खरश्चन्दनभारवाही भारस्य वेत्ता न तु चन्दनस्य । एवं हि शास्त्राणि बहून्यधीत्य अर्थेषु मूढाः खरवद्वहन्ति ॥
जैसे चन्दन का बोझ ढोनेवाला गधा केवल बोझ को जानता है, चन्दन के मूल्य को नहीं; वैसे ही बहुत-सा शास्त्र पढ़कर भी मूढ़ लोग केवल बोझ ढोते हैं, अर्थ नहीं जानते।
